Chester

Having lived just outside Chester for over 40 years, I've come to know the city and its surrounding neighbourhoods exceptionally well. Chester is one of England's best-preserved historic cities, where Roman walls, the River Dee and the unique two-tiered Rows sit alongside a thriving modern city centre. The city is home to an excellent selection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants, with popular destinations including Northgate Street, Watergate Street and the award-winning Chester Market. Chester's Green spaces such as Grosvenor Park, the Meadows and the riverside provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, while Chester Racecourse, Storyhouse theatre and a year-round calendar of festivals and events add to the city's vibrant atmosphere.

Beyond the city walls, each area has its own distinct character—from the independent cafés and Victorian terraces of Hoole, to the riverside homes of Curzon Park, the village feel of the nearby villages of Christleton, Tattenhall and Rowton, and the leafy residential streets of Upton.

​Chester is well known for its outstanding schools, with an excellent choice of high-performing state and independent schools, including The King's School, The Queen's School and Abbey Gate College.

With direct rail services to London in around two hours and excellent road links via the M53, M56 and A55, Chester is also ideally placed for commuting and exploring the wider region. Not forgetting the stunning North Wales coastline, which is less than two hours' drive away.
